Unlike the standard Serial 1 MOSH/CTY, the BMX variety here gets a number of custom touches. That means it sports the same Brose e-bike drive, Gates carbon belt drivetrain, Enviolo continuously variable transmission, TRP hydraulic disc brakes, and Serial 1 battery that was developed in-house using expertise gleaned from Harley-Davidson’s LiveWire electric motorcycle development. The MOSH/BMX is built on the same base as the stock Serial 1 MOSH/CTY. This time though, the custom e-bike transports us back in time a mere 40 years to glory days of the 1980s. Just like the MOSH/CHOPPER, the new MOSH/BMX was crafted by Warren Heir, Jr., and Kendall Lutchman at JR’s Fabrication and Welding in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It eventually sold at auction for $14,200, and now the company is hoping to repeat the magic with another eye-catching and nostalgia-inducing electric bike: the MOSH/BMX. The last time around, Serial 1 unveiled a ’60s chopper style e-bike known as the MOSH/CHOPPER. Rich folks’ money goes to people who actually need it.

Serial 1, the electric bicycle startup spun off last year by Harley-Davidson, crafts each e-bike in the series and then auctions them off to benefit a charity. I'd drop the lower crown a little bit to drop the bottom bracket down to the normal height and keep the front end from feeling too raked out, unless you're going for the chopper/cruiser feel. So getting around to initial mock up gotta get the fork tube lengths measured for cutting, and this will be the last time before it gets primer and I have to worry about leaving finger prints on it: I can only hope it comes in under 50! Frame alone is in the neighborhood of 14lbs. Guessing you'll have it in the 50lb range when you're done. This thing is screaming for a set of Triple Trees! These will do nicely:įor the bars I am thinking something like these bad boys:īut I have a concept handlebar that I may fab up as this is going to be more of a cruiser than a beater/dirt bike. The sandblaster with soda worked awesome! Now its time to go back and sand every inch to prep for primer!

Not to get to far ahead, the keen eye will notice I ordered up some nice white walls to mount on my Araya 7c's that I had kickin around from an old Pro Performer from years back. Realizing that I was not going to get much progress in the dents I grabbed out the trusty sandblaster and went to town: So while the negotiations on art work commence, its time to get some sanding done this is round one:Īs you can see there are some deep gouges, I swear this is some of the hardest steel I have worked with, I have been using a combo of 220/120 grit sand paper, after I took off the initial clear coat that had encapsulated the bike all these years. Laugh.(how many builds have ya heard that!) The question is do you have the vision? This is going to be a one of a kind build that has no equal.

The DJ3 has so many unique design features that it will be hard to not make a wonderful bike. Riding again has brought back the fun that it was to be a kid.

That bike brought me full circle back to my roots and 1989 when I purchased my Haro. I have had a long hiatus from BMX's that was up till two years ago when I invested in a RZ 120. I have a stock 87 Haro Sport sitting on the wall for that. I did not want to build a bike that was run of the mill. He kindly donated the frame to me for this build.
